I am directed to inform you that Mr. D.Burlingham who was seconded for service with the Indian Army Reserve of officers. in 1917, has been permitted to proceed to the United Kingdom on 10 months' leave, direct from India,

2. The date on which he will leave India is as yet unknown, and I am therefore unable to furnish the usual leave certificate at present, but I shall communicate with you when I can scertain the date of his last payment in India.

3. I enclose a statement of the leave to which Mr. Burlingham is entitled, assuming that heleaves India on the 5th March, from which you will see that he is entitled to 3 months' vacation (i.e. Full

Pay) love, and he has 14 months and 9 dayet half pay leave to nis credit. Any portion of this latter may be com uted inco full pay leave, at the rate of 2 months' half pay 1 mouth's fullpay, and I shall be glad to hear what are Mr. Burlingham's wishes in this respect. In any event, his total absence from duty, between the day on which he leaves India and the day on which he returns. to Hong Kong, must not exceed 10 months in all,

The salary of Mr. Burlingham's substantive appointment is £400 to £560 by £20 anually, less 4% Widows & Orphans Pensions, He is

at present on £420 per annum and will be entitled to his next (und fifth) increment of £20 on April 7th, 1919.
